The driving force behind AudioMulch is Ross Bencina, who studied music and majored in electroacoustic composition. He started working on the application in the 90s and, as the development process went on, he got help from family and friends at first, then from a small group of contractors and employees. The first AudioMulch version to be rolled out to the public was 0.7b1, a Beta version that was released in 1998. In 2006, when version 1.0 was released, the software graduated out of Beta. The version number went up over time and AudioMulch is currently past the 2.X milestone in its development process. It continually got better at providing a powerful environment to musicians who can use it for live music performances, music composition, and sound design.

AudioMulch is available for Microsoft’s Windows operating system (XP, Vista, 7) and for Apple’s MAC OS X (Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion). The Windows installation file is close to 15MB in size, so if you’re on a high-speed internet connection, you will get it off the web and onto your computer in little time. To get AudioMulch up and running, just run the aforementioned file and click through the instructions that will be presented to you by a straightforward setup wizard.

AudioMulch uses a patcher-style interface that lets you piece together modules so that you can route audio and process sounds. You will be asked to choose between two color schemes for the interface – a dark and a light color scheme. From the Settings menu, the Appearance submenu, you can adjust the brightness and contrast of the color scheme. If you don’t like what you end up with, hit the Reset button and everything will be restored to the default settings.

You can create music with AudioMulch by patching together a range of sound producing and processing modules that perform high-level musical functions. This sort of functionality makes AudioMulch the ideal tool for live performances and improvisation. You can also use the application to compose music and the nice thing is that with AudioMulch, the live feeling you get during a performance is taken to the studio. It is a pleasure to immerse yourself into the interactive AudioMulch music studio and create music.

You can evaluate AudioMulch’s functionality for a lengthy trial period of 60 days.

Create spectacular sounds in an interactive and easy to use environment with AudioMulch.

Pros

AudioMulch is available for Windows and Mac OS X. You can choose the color scheme for the patcher-style interface. Powerful tools for creating music are put at your disposal. There’s a lengthy 60-day trial period. Several examples are included.

None that I could think of.
